The ICT Innovation for Teachers and Students programme, a joint-effort between the Education Ministry and Microsoft Malaysia, has successfully completed its pilot project involving 100 students from 50 Chinese primary schools in the Klang Valley.

The programme was ultimately expected to benefit about 30,000 teachers and 600,000 students who would be trained in ICT (information and communications technology) by the software giant.

"The ministry is encouraging this programme, which provides ICT training and capability-building at three levels -- students, teachers and headmasters -- from Chinese primary schools starting next year," Deputy Education Minister Datuk Hon Choon Kim said at a ceremony earlier this week to commemorate the successful completion of the pilot.

Implemented under the "Microsoft Partners in Learning" initiative, the programme will see students given an introductory course on "Deploying Student Technical Support Solutions" that includes training on PC hardware configuration, Windows XP installation, basic networking, Internet, e-mail and messaging tools.
