First looks ... Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta - 1)
Contributed by: G3nu1n3, at 1/06/2005 06:40:00 PM.

Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware including slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information.

Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta) Fact Sheet: -

  • It detects VNCServer and MsgPlus! as spyware
  • It scans for spyware related to Browser Helper Objects (BHOs), Downloaded ActiveX Programs, Internet Connected Applications, Internet Explorer Settings, Running Processes, Startup Applications, Windows Host File, Windows Shell Execute Hooks, and Winsock Layered Service Providers
  • Like Windows Update, the AutoUpdater feature can check for and automatically download new spyware definitions on a scheduled (and user-configurable) basis. And by default, the software runs a periodic system scan.
  • There's also a SpyNet feature that allows your computer to share new threats with an AntiSpyware community.
  • This version expires on: 7/31/2005
  • It has a pretty neat Browser Hijack Restore feature in the Advanced Tools. This allows you to set something like the Windows XP Restore Point, except just for your browser.
  • You can visit Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) Newsgroups NNTP version information: Server: privatenews.microsoft.com | Account name: privatenews\spyware | Password: spyware (Note that the password is case-sensitive. )
