iPod By Far Leadng Music Player On Microsoft Campus
Contributed by: Some Desi, at 2/04/2005 09:51:00 AM.

Wired is running an amusing story that reveals the (possibly) shocking fact that, to the frustration of Microsoft management, 80% of the Microsoft employees in Redmond who use digital music players have an iPod in their pocket. That percentage would indicate that, of the 25,000 workers at Microsoft, about 16,000 have iPods. This staggering number of Apple-branded devices on campus has lead to an increasing number of memos sent out by executives that frown on the situation.
"These guys are really quite scared," said the source of Microsoft's management. "It shows how their backs are against the wall.... Even though it's Microsoft, no one is interested in what we have to offer, even our own employees."
A vocal, iPod-using manager inside Microsoft tells that he has seen a number of executives purchase Microsoft-powered players, try them out, find their functionality wanting, and return them in favor of an iPod. Apparently employees are even going to the length of purchasing less distinctive headphones in order to avoid drawing attention to themselves as traitors. Most amusing.
