Microsoft's chairman Bill Gates on Thursday was named the Richest person on the planet for the eleventh year running by Forbes magazine.

According to Forbes' annual list of billionaires, Gates had an estimated wealth of $46.5 billion in 2004, slightly down from the $46.6 billion he was pegged with in 2003. Gates beat out investor Warren Buffet by just $2.5 billion, a gap that shrunk from 2003's $3.7 billion difference.

Other notable technology names on the list included Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, with $21 billion and in the #7 spot; Larry Ellison ($18.4 billion, #9), head of Oracle; Michael Dell ($16 billion, #18); Steve Ballmer ($12.1 billion, #21); Sergey Brin ($7.2 billion, #55) and Larry Page ($7.2 billion, #55), the founders of Google; Jeff Skoll ($5 billion, #94), the first president of eBay; Gordon Moore of Intel and Moore's Law fame ($4.3 billion, #122); and Jeff Bezos ($4.1, #136), creator of Amazon.

The complete Forbes list can be found on the magazine's Web site.
