Internet Explorer rival Firefox Hits 50 Million Downloads
Contributed by: SHA, at 5/01/2005 12:07:00 PM.

The Mozilla Foundation said Friday that its popular open source browser Firefox had passed the 50 million download mark since its November release. They attribute the popularity of Firefox to their ´Spread Firefox` campaign, which is aimed at `wrestling control from a monopoly that has let web technology stagnate`.Earlier this week, OneStat.com reported that Firefox had gained 8.69% of the global market share, which represents an almost .25% rise from February. Between November and February, in contrast, Firefox grew at more than 1%. Microsoft currently has a global market share of 86.63% according to the firm.Much of the interest in Firefox has been driven by repeated security holes found in Microsoft`s Internet Explorer.
